Herts Hike 2012

Saturday 29 September 2012 - A great day out for all the family !

Put this date in your diary now!

This year's Herts Hike will take place on Saturday 29 September and will be a fundraising walk for Oxfam projects with olive farmers in Palestine.

We hope that you will join us for this enjoyable walk through the attractive Hertfordshire countryside and help to raise funds for Oxfam. Walkers make a personal donation or can collect sponsorship money from their supporters. As our volunteers and sponsors cover the all costs of running the Herts Hike, every penny that walkers raise will go to the Oxfam Olive oil projects.
Once again there will a choice of walks in attractive Hertfordshire countryside. The routes begin in the new Heartwood Forest just north of St Albans now being planted by the Woodland Trust. You can choose routes from 3 miles upwards.Click here for further details.

Congratulations on the Herts Hike 2011 over £4,500 raised by walkers

Organisers with the mayor of St Albans in 2011.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2011 Herts Hike. We had excellent weather yet again and just over 240 walkers. We were very pleased to welcome the Mayor of St Albans, Aislinn Lee, who met with walkers before going out herself on the Heartwood Forest route. Congratulations to Les, who at the age of 91 took on the 12 mile walk, and at the other end of the age spectrum, to the St Albans Peace Elphins who raised a total of £330. We had a very enjoyable day with excellent sales on the Fairtrade stall and delicious homemade cakes at teatime. Kizzy Wardle and Ben Ansell from Oxfam’s Community Fundraising Division were also present to meet walkers and thank them for their efforts for Oxfam.

The team of marshals and helpers did sterling service and we are very grateful for their time. Thank you too to the many cooks who provided cakes.

Thank you also to our 2011 sponsors; OutdoorKit, Cotswold, KallKwik, the Co-operative Group, Ayletts and Ramblers Worldwide; without their help we would not be able to run this event.

By January 2012 we had collected a total of just over £4,500, which all goes to Oxfam projects in Thailand  helping babies, children and teenagers affected by HIV and AIDs.
