Oxfam St Albans

Welcome to the Oxfam Herts Hike 2008 page

Enjoy a walk in the Hertfordshire countryside north of St Albans and raise money for Oxfam at the same time! This year's Herts Hike is on Saturday 20th September 2008.

walkers-HH07The“Herts Hike” is a great day out for all ages and raises funds for an Oxfam project. You can collect sponsorship money or make a donation.

The walk starts from Wheathampstead, north of St Albans; there is a choice of 7, 12 or 18 mile fully waymarked routes through attractive farming countryside and villages. We also have a 3 mile Mini-Hike designed with families in mind. (Click to get the route map)

Full route directions will be given out when you register on the day. The routes are waymarked and there are marshals at key points. If you don’t want to walk by yourself, group walks will be organised at certain times.   (Click to get Information for walkers)

Enrolling in advance will save time at registration on the day and also helps us know how many people intend to take part. (Click to get the online Enrolment Form). When you submit the form you will be able to download the sponsorship form and other information. There is no enrolment or registration fee for Herts Hike 2007. All sponsorship and donations from walkers will go directly to Oxfam for our chosen project. This is made possible by the generosity of some local companies (see below), who sponsor the walk the many volunteers who help to organise the event.

As well as walkers, we welcome help from those who could spare a couple of hours to act as marshals or helpers.   (Click to get the online Volunteer Helper Form)

If you just can't walk with us on that day but would like to make a donation to support the hike please click here for our justgiving donation page

In 2007 we raised over £9,500 for Oxfam flood relief work in the Ganges/Brahmaputra river basin in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. This year we aim to raise money for a project improving the lives of rice producers in Tanzania

The project is part of Oxfam's wider work to help scale-up agricultural production in Tanzania and will work with local partners in Shinyanga to give a more secure future for rice producers in the region.

Please help us to exceed the £9,500 which we raised in 2007!

We thank;  Sycamore Wholefoods,  Globetrekker,  Cotswold,  Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, The Co-operative Group,  A Cut Above and  Kallkwik, who have helped to cover the costs of organising Herts Hike 2007.
