Enjoy walking with us this year - Walks from 4 miles starting through the Heartwood Forest !
The Oxfam Herts Hike combines walking an attractive route in Hertfordshire countryside with the opportunity to fund raise for Oxfam's work in relieving poverty.
Walkers make a personal donation or can collect sponsorship money from their supporters. Donations can be made online to a virgingmoneygiving site which you set up (instructions will be provided). Alternatively you can contribute on the day or send sponsorship money in by post after the event.
This year the money raised will go to Oxfam projects in Palestine helping olive farmers improve the processing of their crop and produce high quality Fairtrade olive oil.
Walkers can choose their distance from several options. The shortest route will be at 4 miles within the Heartwood Forest with longer routes of 8, 14,or 19 miles also available. All routes are circular and our base will be the Scout Hut at the entrance to Heartwood Forest in Sandridge. Refreshments and a Fairtrade stall will be available there.
Full route directions will be given out when you register on the day. The routes will be waymarked and there will be marshals at key points. If you don't want to walk by yourself, a group walk will be organised to start at 10:30.
Please click here to enrol and download the sponsorship form and further information. Enrolling now helps us to plan the walk and to fast-track you through the registration process on the day.
All sponsorship and donations from walkers will go directly to Oxfam for our chosen project. This is made possible by the generosity of some local companies (see below), who sponsor running costs of the walk, and by the many volunteers who help to organise the event.
We would like to encourage schools and youth organisations to get involved. Please enrol the name of a leader and tell us how many others might be in the team.
As well as walkers, we welcome help from those who could spare a couple of hours to act as marshals or helpers on the day. (Click to get the online Volunteer Helper Form)
We thank OutdoorKit, Cotswold, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, The Co-operative Group, Ayletts and Kallkwik, who have helped to cover the costs of organising Herts Hike 2011.
