Saturday 24 September 2011 - A great day out for all the family !
Put this date in your diary now!
This year's Herts Hike will take place on Saturday 24 September and will be a fundraising walk for projects in Thailand , helping children and teenagers affected by HIV and AIDs.
We hope that you will join us for this enjoyable walk through the attractive Hertfordshire countryside and help to raise funds for Oxfam. Walkers make a personal donation or can collect sponsorship money from their supporters. As our volunteers and sponsors cover the costs of running the Herts Hike, every penny that walkers raise will go to the Oxfam Thailand project.
Once again there will a choice of walks in attractive Hertfordshire countryside. The routes begin by visiting the new Heartwood Forest just north of St Albans now being planted by the Woodland Trust. You can choose routes between 3½ miles upwards.
Herts Hike 2010
Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2010 Herts Hike. We had excellent weather yet again and just over 310 walkers with ages ranging from under 1 to 105 years old ! We were very pleased to welcome the Deputy Mayor of St Albans and the Mayor of Harpenden, together with the activist who works in Bolivia on Climate Change issues. Richard lee from Oxfam's community Fundraising Division was also present to meet walkers and thank them for their efforts for Oxfam.
The team of marshals and helpers did sterling service and we are very grateful for their time. It was a fine day but quite cool for those sitting at the checkpoints.
Thank you also to our 2010 sponsors; OutdoorKit , Cotswold, KallKwik, the Co-op, Ayletts and Ramblers Worldwide; without their help we would not be able to run this event.
By January 2011 we had collected a total of just over £6,000 which all goes to Oxfam projects in Bolivia helping farmers use seed beds which enable them to carry on growing their food despite floods or drought.
